TEAM USA · HALFCOURT · EVERY POSSESSION LOUD

3x3 BASKETBALL

One hoop, four players, ten minutes and a 12 second shot clock. This is not smaller 5x5. It is a separate national team discipline with its own stars, circuit and medals.

2026 FIBA 3x3 WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS

Four players, one gold medal run.

Joyce Edwards, MiLaysia Fulwiley, Mikaylah Williams and Sahara Williams won the 2026 world title in Warsaw after building chemistry together on the Women’s Series. The result put USA back on top of the senior women’s 3x3 world stage.

2026 FIBA 3x3 U23 WORLD CUP · WUHAN

The next wave brought home gold, too.

McKinna Brackens, Dani Carnegie, Katie Fiso and Tori McKinney won the U23 world title in Wuhan, beating the Netherlands 21-17 in the quarterfinals, Spain 21-16 in the semifinals and Canada 15-10 for gold. It is the second U23 women’s world title for the United States after the 2024 championship.

POOL PLAY

USA got through Pool D.

Wins over Japan, Slovenia and Kenya put the Americans into the knockout round. The Australia game was not played because of court conditions and was recorded as a forfeit.

KNOCKOUT RUN

Three wins, three different tests.

Dani Carnegie scored eight in the quarterfinal. Every U.S. player scored a key basket in the semifinal. McKinney then had six points and six rebounds in the defensive final against Canada.

MVP

Tori McKinney owned the last day.

FIBA named McKinney the women’s tournament MVP after 30 total points. In the final she added six rebounds and three blocks to her game-high six points.

THE PATHWAY

Nations League to world champions.

The same four-player group won the 2026 Nations League Americas North Conference in Chile to qualify the United States for Wuhan, then finished the job on the world stage.

WHY 3x3 PLAYERS HIT DIFFERENT

The skill set is exposed.

Possessions turn over instantly. Every player screens, handles, rebounds and defends in space. The best lineups combine strength, quick processing and the stamina to play without a quiet corner.

OFFENSE

Space, contact, quick reads.

Made baskets do not create a full reset. Teams clear the ball and attack again, which rewards players who can screen, slip, finish through contact and make the next read before the defense recovers.

  • Inside the arc counts one point.
  • Beyond the arc counts two.
  • The first team to 21 wins if it gets there before time expires.
DEFENSE

No weak link survives long.

With only three defenders, one lost assignment becomes an open rim or a two point shot. Switchability, rebounding and communication matter on every exchange.

  • One screen can force a mismatch.
  • Long rebounds start instant offense.
  • Fouls become increasingly expensive late.
THE OLYMPIC TRACK

Qualification has its own road.

Country ranking points, designated events and qualifying tournaments determine who reaches the Olympic field. A 5x5 résumé does not automatically create 3x3 eligibility.
